Disney holds a special place in the heart of Small World Big Fun agent Mary Elizabeth Maynord. Her parents married in June of 1972, just a few months after Disney World opened in Orlando. They spent part of their honeymoon there, and both were hooked!
“Even though we grew up in Tennessee, we made it to Disney at least once every other year. Some of my fondest childhood memories (like running to Space Mountain, which was allowed back in the day!) were made there,” says Mary Elizabeth.
Tragically, Mary Elizabeth’s mom passed away from cancer in 1992, but she feels a special connection to her mom each time she returns. “My mother adored this place. We made so many special memories here – I really feel like she is here with me!”
Mary Elizabeth loves continuing the Disney tradition with her husband and four children, ages 13, 11, 9, and 5. One of her favorite family traditions is what she likes to call the “9-year-old trip.” Mary Elizabeth started this tradition four years ago when her oldest son turned nine. “I take just the one child to Disney and plan the trip around that child’s favorite things. For the girls, we do all-out girly style with princess dining and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. For the boys, it’s all about Star Wars.”
One of her most recent favorite Disney memories involves the Prince Charming Regal Carousel in the Magic Kingdom. “I talked the older kids into riding it because little sister wanted to,” said Mary Elizabeth. “At the very last minute, Anastasia and Drizella jumped on and sat right in front of my 13-year-old son. These girls are never at a loss for words and struck up a very loud conversation with my son, who turned three shades of red! Instead of turning away and leaving him alone, they got louder. After the ride was over, they invited our whole family to get pictures and autographs, and continued to fawn all over our son, kissing his forehead and hugging him! It was pure Disney gold!”
Because she has traveled as a child, teenager, young adult, married without kids, and with infants all the way to teens, she understands the needs of many families and can orchestrate a trip that will be perfect for anyone!
