How to Avoid the Lines Using Disney’s FastPass+

NO ONE likes to stand in lines, especially on a Disney vacation. The good news is that you don’t have to. Disney’s complimentary FastPass+ service lets you reserve access to select rides, attractions and entertainment. It’s the equivalent of making a reservation for a ride!

How does FastPass+ work?

Each guest can book up to three FastPasses per day in one park. FastPass+ reservations are made through your My Disney Experience account, which is linked to your park pass. Disney resort guests get early access to the FastPass+ reservation system, and can make their FastPass+ reservations 60 days before their trip. Guests staying off-site can book theirs 30 days in advance. Because the availability of FastPass+ is limited, especially for the super-popular rides, it’s worthwhile to book them as far in advance as possible.

You are given a 1-hour arrival window. When you show up at the FastPass+ entrance of the ride or attraction, you’ll wait for only 5-10 minutes. This is definitely better than using the Walt Disney World FastPassregular stand-by line, where for many attractions you can wait well over 60 minutes. For example, if your FastPass+ for Toy Story Mania is from 9-10 a.m., you can use your Magic Band or card to enter the attraction through the FastPass+ line anytime within that hour. You do want to be on time.  When your FastPass+ expires, you are out of luck.

Here’s a little secret – you are not limited to three FastPass+ reservations. Once you have used your third FastPass+, you are free to make another selection at an in-park kiosk or on your mobile device. Use that one, then get one more (based on availability) – and repeat!

Some people fear using a FastPass+ means losing spontaneity in the parks. I disagree. If you want to change your selection while on the go, just log in to your app and make the change. This can be tricky for the more popular rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, because there isn’t likely to be last-minute availability, but the system does allow for last-minute changes.

Still think the FastPass+ system sounds confusing? Then you’re in luck! Book your trip with a Small World Big Fun agent and we’ll help you with the entire process! We give tips on which FastPass+ will save you the most time in line and help you make your selections. We will also help with all of the details of your itinerary – our job is to make your vacation easy for you!
